18/07/2009 All hands on deck at Welsh Lavender enterprise!

As you wind your way slowly along the narrow lanes above a secluded wooded valley in the deep reaches of mid-Wales, its impossible not to do a double take when passing by the brightest purple field this side of Provence. It’s harvest time at the only commercial lavender growing enterprise in Wales. Black Planet was there to capture this unique event.

It was a race against time to get the lavender cut and into the dry before the inevitable Welsh summer monsoon weather put a stop to harvesting. All hands on deck, cameras were flung aside (well temporarily!) while we helped to hang the fresh bunches of these superb aromatic blooms up to dry as it came in from the field.
